Not a blog you expected to read from a business who specialises in offering virtual assistance?! There are hundreds of reasons why you should be hiring a VA (just ask us!)…but unless you and your business are really in a position to outsource tasks, it might not be the best move for you to make.

To help you out we have listed five reasons why hiring a VA may not the best option for you:

You want to micro-manage

It’s not easy to let go and trust someone, we know that, that’s why we take the time to sit and talk with you before you hire one of our experienced VAs. Not only to make sure we fully understand what your needs are, but also to ensure you can be matched with someone who you’ll feel confident hiring. That being said, you may not be ready to let go and this means you risk wasting your money and not getting the very best from your VA. Trust is the foundation for a good working relationship and if you feel you are still attached to the tasks that you think you want to hand over, you may find it impossible to let go, allowing your VA to show their full potential. If you think this is the case, I suggest slowly outsourcing tasks, allowing you to build up trust. The more you trust them, the more you’ll feel able to release more tasks and not hover over them watching everything they do. If you constantly feel the need to check up on them, you’ll not only be wasting your time, but the VAs time too.

You can’t afford a VA

It may seem obvious, and yes a VA is much more cost effective than an employee, but be sure you can afford your VA. It’s worth mentioning that you mustn’t forget to weigh up the value of your own time vs what you would be paying the VA. Could you drop some of the everyday tasks letting a VA take care of them, while allowing you to focus on growing your business? Investing in support WILL free you up and can make a huge difference, but if you don’t see the value in that and believe you can’t afford it, wait until you can.

You don’t want your business to grow

You may feel happy with where you are right now, find it easy and stress free to keep on top of the general day to day tasks, meet client demands and you don’t feel the need for outside expertise. That’s fine. There will come a time when you’re ready to take your business to the next level and when you’re at that stage, you will know!

You want the world!

Aim high!! We are the first to agree with you there, but make sure the expectations you have of your VA are realistic and be sure to communicate them clearly. You may need admin support, social media management and blogs written, however, not every VA specialises in everything. You may find that you’ll have to hire several people if you’re wanting an array of different tasks conquered. You want to get the most, and we absolutely want to give you the best, but being realistic and setting out your expectations clearly right from the get go will avoid disappointment all round.

You don’t know what you want or where to begin

Do you actually have work right now to outsource, and are you clear in what needs doing? If not, you could waste money by asking your VA to complete tasks that aren’t beneficial to you or your business. Before you hire someone make a list of the tasks you currently undertake and highlight the ones you feel can be handed over. These could be tasks which are crucial to the running of your business, but don’t necessarily bring in revenue. Things like website maintenance, blogging, newsletters or internet research. If you’re struggling to figure out what you could outsource, schedule a chat and Nicola well help you.
